If you’re like most parents, you battle a love/hate relationship with LEGO. LEGO sets are incredible learning tools and great fun for the whole family, but they are impossible to store.

You have hundreds (if not thousands) of tiny pieces in all shapes and sizes. Most storage solutions result in dumping out the whole bucket on the ground, which we all know means that someone (usually mom or dad) will step on one in the middle of the night.

What would you say if we told you that you never need to step on a LEGO block again? It’s true. These LEGO storage solutions will not only store all the small pieces securely, but they make clean-up fun.

You probably know by now that you can’t store your LEGO in just anything. The wrong container either results in lost pieces or makes the blocks hard to play with, which leads to your kids dumping out the entire box onto the floor.

LEGO makes dedicated storage containers that represent the LEGO theme, but you can use any storage solution designed to hold small pieces.

LEGO storage containers keep your LEGO organized and easy to transport. Ideally, they also save space by being stackable or fitting well into closets. Of course, if your household boasts a huge LEGO collection, you can.

Because these can be themed or general storage containers, you can buy them anywhere including big-box retailers, the LEGO store, toy stores, or online.

You can spend anywhere between $10 and $200 on LEGO storage. It all depends on how you want to store your collection and who uses the blocks most. Expect to spend more on specialty items that showcase your LEGO or match a LEGO-themed room.

We sorted through both LEGO-approved storage solutions as well as general toy and craft storage to find products that work perfectly with LEGO. We placed the most emphasis on containers and buckets designed to fit LEGO as well as the multi-purpose vessels that work well for storing and carrying the bricks between rooms, houses, and even on vacation.

You can expect a price range between $20 to $50 on the storage solutions offered on our list.

While the average price for LEGO storage seems to be around $25pillow cover home decor, we found you’ll generally pay more for anything produced by LEGO (i.e., storage bricks).

Looking for a way to store LEGO sets so that you never step on another block again? Here are a few storage options that we think work like a dream.

PROS

CONS

The Lego Big Toy bucket is perfect for Lego sets with Duplo pieces or even for standard Legos.

The reason it’s better suited to larger toys is that it comes with one main compartment, so little pieces can quickly sink to the bottom. Overall, we think the Big Toy Bucket better serves kids who happen to love Lego because it’s themed storage.

It also has four outer pockets for storing other toys (or more Legos). The pockets fit around the circle-shaped main component and don’t have covers.

We like the Big Toy Bucket because it is ultra-portable. Carry it around using the two sturdy handles made from webbing. If it’s empty, it collapses flat for easy storage. It also comes with a water-repellent base that’s easy to clean.

PROS

CONS

The LEGO Storage Brick Multi-Pack includes four storage bricks perfectly designed to carry Legos.

The four bricks each stack together to build one large block, and since the storage container comes from LEGO, it features the classic colors and shapes found in your LEGO sets. You get a yellow, red, blue, and white brick in each pack.

You can also buy these bricks independently, but buying a single block isn’t good value in comparison to the multi-packs.

Additionally, the multi-pack is better able to store the entire LEGO collection in one place. You won’t have any pieces floating about or sitting in another container.

We like that the bricks are easy to open and close, but they are still secure. We also happen to love any toy storage solutions that also double as decoration.

PROS

CONS

The LifeSmart storage container is the first non-LEGO branded item on our list, but as we learned, the best LEGO storage doesn’t need to have the LEGO brand to be quality.

The stackable storage container meets LEGO dimensions and includes 50 adjustable compartments. If your child loves to sort and organize, this storage container gives them the option to do just that.

LifeSmart used a five-layer stackable construction that snaps together for security. Each row includes two rows of five compartments closed off with removable dividers. The next layer serves as the lid for the bottom layer, and LifeSmart added a sturdy snapping lid on top of the entire build to keep everything in place.

We like that the container caters to LEGO dimensions, but it’s also ideal for Littlest Pet Shop, Shopkins, or Tsum Tsum figures. You can also use it as a crafts box as the compartments are the right size for beads or Rainbow Loom Bands.

Unlike the bricks, the container has a handle that makes it easy to transport.

Finally, you can buy it in beautiful, kid-friendly colors including:

Not all LEGO dimensions will fit in the small compartments, but you can remove some of the dividers to adapt the space. The box also clearly won’t hold any constructions, so you’ll need a separate space for anything built that you don’t intend to pull apart.

Additionally, we should note that if one of the plastic tabs that hold the layers together breaks, the whole construction struggles. You’ll need to remove the row as it is virtually unusable, which cuts down on storage significantly.

PROS

CONS

The Lego toy storage mat bag is a simple drawstring back that offers 60-inches of play space before cinching together and doing all the clean up for you. You can then carry it around like a travel bag, making it easy to bring Legos or any other toys on the road with you.

In our opinion, the whole contraption is incredibly clever and saves a considerable amount of space. It doubles as a playmat and storage container. When you let the drawstrings go, the whole thing lays flat. When you want to pack it up, pull the drawstrings in again, and it effortlessly cleans up for you.

The material is also of high quality. The manufacturer uses a double-layer nylon material so that kids can crawl around on it without rips or tears. It’s also durable enough to use outside.

If LEGO is taking over your house, then you’ll like this mat because it isolates the LEGO play area and by containing the LEGO also reins in the chaos.

PROS

CONS

Fun Builder’s LEGO compatible table provides a dedicated play and storage space for your children’s LEGO collection. Unlike other play tables, Fun Builder’s table features solid hardwood construction, which makes it built to last. The top is a LEGO friendly board set for epic constructions.

The table is 32-inches long by 16-inches wide by 18-inches high and arrives pre-assembled. All you need to do is dedicate a few minutes to installing the legs.

Storage takes place in two areas. First, there’s a patent-pending mesh storage bag that hangs off the side of the table. Kids can reach in and grab what they need from the mesh bag.

We recommend this table for young children (toddlers) who play with the Duplo blocks. The mesh bag fares better with the larger ones and given that the table is only 18-inches tall, older children will outgrow it. They might find they’re too tall to stand and play but too small to sit on the floor.

Looking for something simple and straight to the point? Sterlite is a storage solution brand you can find everywhere, and its popularity occurs for a reason. Every Sterlite storage box is durable, easy to use, and thoughtful in its design.

We like the layer stack and carry box for use with LEGOs because it allows you to stack up to three boxes at a time. Not only do you get plenty of room for the toys but using four boxes makes it easier to sort them out—if that’s your kid’s choice.

Unlike other storage solutions on our list, these tuck into cupboards and closets easily. If you pull them apart, they can even fit under the seats in the car. And because they are multi-purpose boxes, you can reuse them for anything else once the LEGO era ends.

You can buy these in a single pack of three boxes with one organizer insert or in a four pack for neat organization. The boxes are also lightweight and come with a handle, making them easier than ever to transport.

PROS

CONS

Take your LEGO on the go with this vast LEGO tote and playmat.

The bag resembles a duffel bag, but it includes three zip-top containers for storage and organization. Each capsule also has an EVA top window so that you can see inside and pull out the right toys.

We love that LEGO designed the bag for kids. The combination of the windows and the oversize zippers and handles cater to small hands and curious minds. Even the buckle used to secure the whole bag is kid-friendly and should prevent trapped fingers.

The bag features CPSIA compliant materials, and it is also free from lead, PVC, and phthalates.

It is more expensive than the average storage solution, but it does combine the playmat and a more organized system of storage compared to the other playmat and storage bag listed here.

PROS

CONS

So far, every LEGO storage solution focuses on the individual blocks. But as parents, we know there’s more to LEGO than that.

The LEGO Minifigure case is a place to keep all their figurines proudly on display for the world to see. The walls are transparent, but the top and bottom of the container mimic the look of LEGO blocks.e-Organizer-Collection/dp/B000067PTO/ref=sr_1_38?keywords=lego table&;qid=155463196

These containers are more expensive given that they only hold Minifigures, but they do make for great decorations in kids’ rooms.

Has your LEGO collection gone the way of out-of-control? Maybe your kids have a collection of building sets that all require storage.

We recommend the Tot Tutors storage organizer for families that are loyal LEGO customers.

The set-up looks similar to the bins your child sees at school. It features a wood, standalone frame as well as 12 removable storage bins that come in multiple, kid-friendly colors and two sizes.

Each of the bins is open and tilted towards the front, so it’s easy for kids to peer inside. Because the containers are easy to remove, they can pull out the box they want, take it away, and then bring it back when you’re done playing for the day.

We like that the system is large and includes multiple bins because if both kids have LEGOs but have different sets, they can easily differentiate between the two. For example, one child can use the bottom shelf, and the other gets assigned to the middle rack.

If you don’t like the colors, you can also choose a scheme that suits your home or room décor. Other colors include:

The dimensions of the unit are 15.5-inches by 34-inches by 31-inches. Each includes eight standard bins and four oversized bins.

PROS

CONS

Our final product is a simple storage box that works perfectly for Duplo blocks or even traditional LEGOs.

The storage bin is foldable and made from eco-friendly materials. However, the seller doesn’t specify why it is eco-friendly, so you should be wary of this claim. It sits neatly on the shelf and fits into Ikea cube organizers, which makes it ideal for storing small pieces in your existing furniture.

We love the cute, kid-friendly animal patterns on the box. Each one is hand-sewn in a bright color. They are cheaper than the products sold by 3 Sprouts and offers the same storage solution.

What’s our verdict?

In our opinion, the best LEGO storage container is the LEGO 4-pice play mat and tote. It combines the best of both worlds: it stores and organizes with three buckets and is easy to transport and play with. Although it is expensive, it offers thoughtful kid-friendly features like large zippers and three preview windows that encourage independence.

It also holds thousands of bricks, so you can use it to store and carry your entire collection with no issues.

Is it worth the price? We think the thoughtful features and the large capacity make it worthwhile, and it is a piece that you can hold onto for years. It’s also fun for kids, which means they’ll use it. That’s not something we can say about most storage solutions.

Last week I showed you how my mom gave Clare’s favorite dress a second life with some yo yo applique. Here is a little tutorial for How to Make Yo Yos…? just like my mama taught me and her mama taught her. Once you know how to make them, you can use them on anything from t-shirts to hair clips. You can even make an entire bedspread by sewing them together like my grandmother did here. Talk about scrap busting!

Professionally made bow ties are fairly expensive, and it can be frustrating to find patterns that you like. If you have some free time (an hour or two, depending on your sewing skills), you can make your own bow tie from fabric that you've picked out, and end up with a one-of-a-kind bow tie for under $5 in fabric costs.
